The 2006 World Bank Global Development Marketplace (DM2006) is a worldwide competition seeking innovative, small-scale development projects addressing the theme of Innovations in Water, Sanitation, and Energy Services for Poor People. After a thorough review process, 118 finalists from 55 countries were selected from a highly competitive pool of over 2,500 applicants to participate in the final round of the competition held in Washington DC May 8-9, 2006.

Water Sector Dialogue
During the Development Marketplace, water, sanitation, and energy "sector dialogues" were held so that finalists could discuss common challenges, learn from each others' experiences, and network with other development practitioners in their sector.

Panel Discussion
The Development Marketplace also included panel discussions on how to encourage target populations to adopt innovations, whether through behavior change, creating a commercial market for products and services, or by other means.

Interviews with Marketplace Finalists
During this year's competition, the Case Foundation interviewed eight of the competition's finalists to learn more about their ideas for improving access to clean water. Three of the finalists interviewed went on to win the competition and will receive funding and other support from the World Bank.
